BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- The St. Clair County prosecutor wants a circuit judge to be banned from hearing hundreds of cases, citing a federal investigation of the jurist.

St. Clair County Brendan Kelley says he filed a complaint against Judge Michael Cook on Thursday with state judicial discipline regulators.

Details of the federal probe weren’t immediately clear. But Kelly says in his court filings that Kelly has “actively assisted in and advanced a federal investigation” of the judge.

Kelly says that that investigatory help resulted in the execution of search warrants at Cook’s Belleville home and his hunting cabin in western Illinois’ Pike County.

Calls on Thursday to Cook’s judge’s chambers were not answered.
