(KMOV) – School officials say a text message prompted a lockdown for Roxana High and Jr. High School on Tuesday.

According to an email sent by Roxana Community Unit School District 1, the Jr. and Sr. High went on lockdown Tuesday afternoon due to a text message that was sent from a student stating that there were shots fired at the High School.

The schools located in the 400 block of N. Chaffer were placed on lockdown and police were sweeping the building to investigate the report.

Area authorities took action immediately to initiate  lockdown procedures.  Local responders from all area police forces were on campus quickly to address the situation.

Authorities were able to locate the student and confirm no shots were fired.

At 2 p.m., all students were given the all clear and returned to their regular schedules.

Additional information was not immediately available.
