ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A 28-year-old man out of jail on bond for burglary was charged Friday in connection with armed robberies against women in south St. Louis.

Police say Marcus Dixon man preyed on women who were alone, then went on to rob a 7-Eleven with a BB gun that looked like a 9 mm pistol. They also say he is suspected of committing crimes to fuel his heroin habit.

Employees say Dixon did not get away with anything, but did hit the clerk over the head with a gun and then ran.

All three armed robberies happened in the Southampton area of south St. Louis.

No one was hurt.

Police say he wore a red ski mask when he held up the 7-Eleven.

Police say they have a new plan to help protect shoppers from random attacks over the coming weeks. They say a new grant will allow them to beef up patrols through the city’s business districts during the holiday shopping season.
