Police arrest one suspect in UMSL attacks

Bel-Nor, Missouri (KMOV) – Police in St. Louis County are trying to determine if one suspect is responsible for two separate attacks on UMSL students this week.

One of the attacks happened in the Social Science Business Building on the west side of campus. Students tell News 4’s Ray Preston that this building houses one of the main student computer labs and in the afternoon can be a fairly busy.
 
An UMSL spokesperson says Tuesday afternoon about 4:20 the woman stepped into a restroom and that is where she was approached by a man. Reportedly the man displayed a knife, there was a physical confrontation, but the man fled the scene when another woman walked into the restroom.
 
On Thursday night an UMSL student walking on the south campus was attacked and forced into a backyard in the neighboring Bel-Nor subdivision where she was sexually assaulted. Later that night police picked up a suspect in nearby Bel-Ridge.
 
The suspect arrested in that attack is described as a black male, 30 -35 years of age, 5’ 8” tall and weighing 240 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes, facial hair with a goatee. He was wearing a down jacket and hooded shirt.
 
The suspect in the UMSL restroom attack is described as a black male, 35-45 years of age, 6 to 6’2” tall. He was a thin build, with few days growth of beard and foul breath. He was wearing a grey or black hooded sweatshirt with an emblem of some type on the left side, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
