Police search for man who escaped from Malcolm Bliss State Hospital

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- St. Louis police are searching for a man who escaped from the Malcolm Bliss State Hospital.

Gregg Atkisson, 27, was observed on Sunday afternoon scaling a 20-foot downspout and fleeing from hospital grounds on the 5400 block of Arsenal, according to hospital employee. Atkisson was committed to the hospital under court order but further details are unknown.

This is the third patient escape from the hospital in 2014. One of the patient who escaped was charged with assaulting a police officer and the other is an accused arsonist.

"I'm a little concerned about them escaping," said a nearby resident. "You live in this area and you want to be safe."

The Department of Mental Health could not be reached regarding this case. Malcolm Bliss State Hospital houses 180 beds. The facility houses some who have been accused of serious crimes.
