WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Illinois State Police are investigating the murder of an unidentified man who was found inside a home in Washington Park on Wednesday.

Around 5:30 p.m., Washington Park Police were called to check on the well-being of a 48-year-old male resident in the 2200 block of North 52nd Street.

When officers entered the home, they discovered the body of a black male who had been dead for several days. Evidence at the scene indicated the victim was murdered, authorities said. Washington Park Police called the Illinois State Police in to investigate further.

Police have not released the victim’s identity.

An autopsy is planned for Thursday by the St. Clair County Coroner’s office to confirm the victim’s cause of death.

Anyone with information about the murder is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 866-371-TIPS or Illinois State Police Special Agent Elbert Jennings at 618-346-3765.
