Mother charged after baby reportedly taken from post office found

STARK COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV) – Authorities called off an Amber alert for a three-week-old baby reportedly taken from a Stark County, Illinois post office Thursday morning. Police said the infant was recovered just after 7:45 pm.

The Stark County Sheriff's Office says Mia Graci Thompson is alive and in good condition after being found in a ditch just outside of town.

The baby was found by volunteers and was taken to a local hospital. Authorities did not say what led them to her.

Her mother, Kendra Meaker, was taken into custody on charges related to the incident. Police would not reveal what she is charged with.

Illinois State Police said the child was reported abducted around 8 a.m. Thursday morning.

Meaker intially told police she had come back to her car at the Toulon Post Office and discovered the child had been taken out of the back seat of her vehicle.

Police are continuing to investigate and News 4 will bring you more information as this story develops.
