PERRYVILLE, Mo (KMOV) – A police officer who runs a taxidermy service is charged with stealing from his clients.

According to police, Eric Smith, 29, was taking deposits from clients for work, but would fail to do so.

Smith was contracted to do work mounting animal heads, but would never complete the job and didn’t return the animal parts or the deposits.

He faces charges of felony stealing and stealing by deceit. Smith is a police officer in Leadwood, Mo and was arrested Thursday while in police training.

He is being helod on a $5000 cash bond.
