KINLOCH, Missouri (KMOV) -- Since airing on Tuesday, News 4 has been told similar stories about a salvage yard in Kinloch where the owners have had a hard time getting their cars back.

A mother of three children discovered that her car was sold to Complete Auto Salvage for $300 after someone living nearby bragged about stealing it outside her apartment in February.

After contacting the salvage yard, Sharmain Stempney only got a voice message and was unable to get her car back.

Workers were able to block News 4's view inside the business where it is believed to have stolen cars that they will not return to the owners.  A view from Skyzoom 4 over the business did not show any signs of Stempney's car and the owner says they never had it.

Despite the owner saying he runs a legit business, St. Louis County police say it is an illegal salvage yard.  Both the State of Missouri and St. Louis County police have been investigating the business and have turned its findings to the prosecutor's office.

The man who tracked his stolen car to Complete Auto Salvage was finally able to get it back today after proving ownership and paying $500.
