WASHINGTON PARK, Ill. – Washington Park authorities have identified a man whose remains were found in a car trunk after firefighters extinguished a fire in the vehicle.

Police say the body of Belleville resident Demarco Fossett, 30, was found in the 1100 block of N. 43rd St. around 10:20 p.m. Saturday. Washington Park Assistant Police Chief James Mister says the body was so badly burned that it was not immediately known whether the person was male or female.

He says a neighbor saw the car fire and called 911.

The body was discovered when a firefighter noticed what appeared to be a bone, forced open the trunk and found the charred remains.

Anyone with information on Fossett’s murder is asked to contact Special Agent Denis Janis at 618-346-3768 or Crime Stoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).

A reward of up to $1,000 may be given for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
