Police identify 62-year-old man killed in fiery crash on I-44

(KMOV) -- Authorities have identified the man who was killed in a fiery crash along Interstate 44 on Saturday morning. 

Patrick Jack Lowrie, 62, was killed in a multi-vehicle accident that started when he struck a police cruiser that was stopped on the side of eastbound I-44 at the Grand exit. 

According to police, officers were assisting a motorist who had lost a mattress in the middle of the interstate at 10 a.m. when Lowrie struck the back of an unoccupied police vehicle.

Lowrie's pick-up truck was then sent into a spin on the eastbound lanes before being struck by an oncoming semi-truck. The pick-up truck burst into flames moments later .

Police say Lowrie was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the tractor trailer suffered minor injuries. No police officers were injured in the crash.

All eastbound lanes were shutdown until 3 p.m. as an accident reconstruction team were on scene investigating.  

Further details into the fatal accident were not immediately released.
