St. Louis, Mo. (KMOV) – Police in St. Louis County are taking another step toward becoming the first department in the state to equip officers with the heroin antidote Narcan in case of an overdose.

On Monday, Chief Jon Belmar attended the first Narcan meeting since Governor Jay Nixon signed the bill into law earlier this month.

According to a Sergeant, the department is still in the planning phases of how exactly the training of officers will work. The goal is to have most cop cars equipped with the medicine by next summer.

Currently, only a handful of departments across the country have Narcan.
