ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Concerns about violence have prompted police to close a downtown street and increase patrols on weekends.
Police have shut down Washington Avenue between 10th and 14th between 10 p.m. and 3:30 a.m. The new strategy comes less than a week after a man was struck by bullet fragments in the same area.
Police hope helicopter patrols, a command truck and dozens of extra officers will increase safety downtown.
Officials have not indicated how long the extra measures will continue.
