(KMOV) – An ongoing feud between city leaders of a small community and its police chief came to a head when the top cop was fired.

The now former chief of Leadington, Rick Pogue, found out he was fired Tuesday when the city sent a letter to his attorneys. His reps told News 4’s Julian Johnson the accusations against him are false and he's fighting to get his job back.

“Saddened but not surprised I think is the best way to describe Rick's reaction,” said Pogue’s attorney, Meredith Berwick.

She saw the list of about dozen complaints the city has against Pogue in his 20 years with the department.

Berwick wouldn’t go into detail about the accusations but did say none of them warranted a firing and that this whole thing could just be political.

“There was one accusation that we consider minor that he did admit to and did explain but everything else he categorically rebutted,” Berwick said. “There's a sense with the community and with Rick of what's really going on here.

News 4 tracked down Mayor Pro-tem Steve Kinsey who said Pogue had been let go and had no other comments.

Pogue and his staff plan to possibly appeal the firing to the state supreme court.
