ST. LOUIS—A woman is facing scrutiny from police after allegedly lying about being shot by a carjacker.

The 24-year-old woman initially told police that she was sitting in her 2002 Saturn at 20th and Howard around 4 a.m. Tuesday when a man opened the door and shot her in the leg.

She told police the suspect then stole her car.

The woman remains hospitalized in serious condition, but police now believe she had been shot at a home, though they’re not sure of all of the details.

An investigation continues.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
