(KMOV.com) – A mother was summoned to court after she allegedly left her infant son alone in her car on a hot day.

Police said the woman left her son, 2, in her car while she went shopping at Gravois Bluffs. Authorities said it was 74 degrees at the time and that the boy was alone in the car for at least 10 minutes.

Authorities said another shopper noticed the boy was crying and tried to unlock the car before calling police.

"I guess parents feel more comfortable with newer cars these days and securing a child in the car,” said Aaron Dilks with the St. Louis County Police. “But regardless of how comfortable you feel with your vehicle, the air conditioning left on, the windows cracked, it's not allowed.”

Police said the child was not injured.
