(KMOV.com) -- Police say a child has been reunited with her mother after the toddler was found wandering alone with no shoes or coat on Monday afternoon.

Authorities say the toddler was found walking in the 4500 block of Gibson, between Taylor and Kingshighway, around 2:30 p.m. The female child, estimated to be between one year and 18 months old, can walk but cannot talk.

The mother told police she came home from work to find the child's father asleep, and the toddler gone. Authorities said the frantic mother then ran outside to look for the child, and found police beginning to canvas the neighborhood.

Police reunited the toddler with her mother. Juvenile detectives are still investigating the incident, but no charges are expected.

A half dozen police officers spent about an hour knocking on doors in the neighborhood, asking if anyone knew the child or where she lived.
