(KMOV.com) – Homicide detectives are investigating the death of 16-year-old Chauncey Brown after his body was found in north St. Louis Saturday.

According to reports, police received a call around 4:00 p.m. Saturday that Brown was missing near Martin Luther King Blvd. and Marcus Ave. Reports indicate that it was out of character for the teen to be gone overnight and not respond to multiple phone calls and text messages.

After canvassing the area, a police officer recovered the body of the teenager. Brown was found face-down with an apparent gunshot wound to his chest in an unfenced backyard behind some brush. He was pronounced dead at the scene in the 4700 block of Cote Brilliante by EMS.

Investigators determined that on the night of September 27, Brown and two friends were at a party at Club 187. One suspect threatened to shoot Brown and the other two victims while at the club. To avoid further confrontation with the suspects, Brown and his friends left the club.

Witnesses told police a white Dodge Challenger, with four male passengers, drove towards the victims, firing shots.

Witnesses and one of the victims searched the area for Brown but were unable to locate him. The third victim fled on foot. The other two victims were not reported to have been injured.

Police report that they have recovered the vehicle and taken one suspect, a 16-year-old male, into custody.

The investigation is ongoing. Stay tuned to News 4 and KMOV.com as details become available.
