ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Police say a teenager charged with trying to rob a woman in the Central West End may be responsible for eight other attacks over the last few weeks.
Corie Harvey, 18, was charged Thursday with second-degree attempted robbery after he allegedly approached a woman in the 4500 block of Maryland, grabbed her neck and forced her to the ground.
According to police, Harvey was searching her coat and pants pockets when she called out for help.
Harvey has also been charged with attempted robbery for a Jan. 20 attack on a 57-year-old woman who uses a cane to walk. Police say Harvey took $10 from the woman, then knocked her down and pulled down her pants. Harvey stopped when the woman reportedly told him she had AIDS.
In a third attack, Harvey is accused of punching a mentally disabled man in the 5500 block of Delmar on Jan. 24.
Prosecutors say they hope the new charges against Harvey send a message to other criminals preying upon those who cannot defend themselves.
Authorities are also investigating whether Harvey may be responsible for five other attacks in the area.
