Police: Suspect stabs teen after arguing over a cigarette

(KMOV.com) – Police are searching for the suspect in a stabbing assault that took place Sunday night.

Just before midnight, a 17-year-old victim was approached by a suspect in a store parking lot in the 500 block of Bates.

The suspect, a black male in his 20s, asked the victim for a cigarette and was told it would cost 35 cents.

After arguing with the victim, the suspect went into the store, grabbed a sign and threw it at the victim, hitting him in the head.

The two began fighting in the parking lot, at which point the suspect stabbed the victim in the back of the neck and fled the scene.

The victim was transported to area hospital where he is listed as stable. The

Suspect is described as about 5’7” weighing 215 pounds with a dark complexion. He was wearing a tank top, black shorts and shoes. The investigation is ongoing.
