(KMOV.com) – Police say a man is in custody after he allegedly raped one south St. Louis woman, then tried raping another just hours later.
A woman told police she was at a gas station on Grand before 7:30 a.m. Tuesday when she was forced into her car by the suspect at knife point.
Police say the suspect then raped the woman in the 3900 block of Keokuk. According to a witness, the victim ran down the street naked and screaming. Neighbors who heard the woman sprang into action and covered her up before calling police.
"I was in my kitchen and I heard a woman screaming, like I have never heard anyone scream before," one witness told News 4. "She was screaming 'help me, help me, he raped me.'"
According to authorities, another woman had just walked her children to school around 9:30 a.m. when the suspect knocked her to the ground on her porch on Pennsylvania Ave.
Police say the man tried to remove her pants, but family members inside the home rushed to help. The suspect ran, but was arrested about a block away on Minnesota Ave.
Police have yet to release the suspect's name because he has not been charged. Authorities told News 4 they will seek to have charges filed Wednesday.
