(KMOV.com) -- St. Charles police have confirmed a woman is dead, and her son critically injured after a shooting at a home in Wentzville on Saturday afternoon.
Officers were called to a home in the 200 block of Niagra, just north of Wentzville Parkway, around 4 p.m. When they arrived, police found a wounded juvenile in the driveway.
Laurie Anderson, 44, was found dead from a gunshot wound inside the home.
The juvenile victim was transported to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in critical condition.
Multiple police departments converged on the area, evacuating nearby homes and closing streets in the Stone Ridge Canyon neighborhood. After about an hour, police allowed residents to return to their homes.
"We didn't know what kind of situation we had," said Lisa Harrison, Wentzville police chief. "We set a perimeter, we called the SWAT team just to assess the situation, and we found what we found through the investigation."
Dana Hill, a neighbor of the victims, said she was were ordered back into her home as police analyzed the situation.
"They were screaming at everyone, 'You're in the line of fire, you're in the line of fire, you need to get down and move out of the way. Go back in your homes.' So it was a little scary," Hill said.
An investigation into the shooting continues, but police said they are not looking for any suspects.
