Elderly man struck, killed by car in O'Fallon, Mo.

(KMOV.com) – Police said an elderly O’Fallon, Mo. man was killed after he was struck by a car while retrieving a dog.

Police said Richard Kurtz, 78, was hit by a car Monday afternoon. According to police, the accident occurred just after 1:00 p.m. near the intersection of Highway N and Long Wheat Drive in O’Fallon, Mo.

Police said Kurtz ran out of his house to chase after his fiancé’s dog, who ran out across Highway N. According to police, someone caught the dog, then Kurtz retrieved the dog and then was hit while trying to walk it back across Highway N.

Police said both Kurtz and the dog were killed. The driver was not injured. The investigation is ongoing.
