FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOV) – Police say a robbery suspect is in custody after the husband of the victim held him at the scene until authorities arrived in Fairview Heights on Friday.
Aaron Sumida, 25, was charged with felony theft from a person and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to police, a woman was shopping at Old Time Pottery in the 10700 block of Lincoln Trail around 3 p.m. when Sumida grabbed her purse out of the shopping cart and started running away.
Police said the victim then grabbed her purse and the Sumida, but he hit her hands and pulled away.
Authorities said the victim then chased the suspect until her husband tackled him to the ground. He and store employees kept him there until police arrived.
Sumida was taken into custody. His bond was set at $100,000.
