(KMOV) – Police are investigating after a methamphetamine lab caused an explosion at a house in Granite City.
Granite City police say officers responded to a possible shooting in the 2400 block of Pine St. and discovered an explosion occurred Tuesday night due to a meth lab.
No injuries were reported, though some of the windows were blown out when News 4 arrived on scene.
"It sounded like a shotgun going off, I though someone got killed," Said neighbor Robert Fuller.
Illinois State Police has taken over the investigation and say neighbors may be in danger due to chemicals in the air. But a city building inspector says residents should not be concerned because the chemicals were mainly confined to the house.
Police say the home's landlord, Margret Fletcher, 57, was arrested because she let tenants stay in a home not under code. She has since bonded out of jail.
Police said they discovered the house was not complying with code because someone overdosed on drugs at the home in January. Authorities then declared the home to be unlivable.
Authorities told News 4 they are still searching for the people responsible.
