(KMOV) – Police say a man tried to abduct a teenage girl while she was walking to Normandy High School in north St. Louis County on Tuesday.

Authorities said the girl was walking near the area of Lucas and Hunt and Lulu around 8 a.m. when a man jumped out of a nearby vehicle and tried to grab her.

Police said he told her not to jerk away from him or scream. Authorities said the girl then managed to fend the suspect off and ran straight to school administrators after arriving on campus.

Officers were called to the scene and have been combing the area looking for the suspect.

Police described the suspect as a 5-foot-8 black man with a shaved head. Authorities said he was wearing a white tank top, blue jeans, a blue visor and a black book bag.  Officers were looking at surveillance video from a nearby MetroLink station in hopes of identifying him.
