(KMOV) – A man is accused of stealing catalytic converters from several parked vehicles in Wellston, then selling them to a scrap yard in East St. Louis.

David Garnett, 55, was charged Dec. 11 with stealing over $500, a felony.

According to court documents, Garnett took the parts from 10 vehicles parked at Brock’s Auto Parts between August and September.

Police say during that time he sold several of them at the scrap yard.

Authorities say the 10 converters had an estimated value of more than $6,000.
