(KMOV) – A Granite City woman faces charges after she allegedly pushed her 71-year-old mother-in-law over after breaking into her home on Sunday.
Debra Williams, 43, was charged Tuesday with felony home invasion.
According to police, Williams went to a home in the 2150 block of Robert Ave. around 12 p.m. and asked to see her husband.
Police say the victim told Williams her husband was not home and she became angry. She then grabbed a jack stand and busted out the victim’s driver’s side window.
The elderly woman grabbed a phone, but before she could call police Williams grabbed it and pushed the victim out of the way.
Police say Williams then grabbed a vase and threw it on the floor. She took the victim’s laptop computer and drove away.
Authorities say Williams later saw her husband while driving and tried to run him over, but he was able to avoid the vehicle.
Police were notified and eventually stopped Williams somewhere in Granite City. She was taken into custody and transported to the Madison County Jail on a $100,000 bond.
Authorities say they located the stolen laptop at the time of her arrest.
