(KMOV) – Police say a man is in custody after he stole a Pattonville school bus, took it for a joy ride, then fought officers when they tried to arrest him.

Jeffery Eilerman, 41, was charged with third-degree assault on an officer, resisting arrest and stealing a motor vehicle,

Police said Eilerman took the bus from the Pattonville School District parking lot in the 4000 block of Banks Rd. sometime after 6 p.m. on July 25.

Authorities said he parked the bus nearby and bragged to a security guard that he took it for a joy ride.

Eilerman then drove off from the scene.

He was pulled over by police near the intersection of Old St. Charles Rock Rd. and Bostons Farm Rd. around 1:25 a.m. the next day.

Authorities pried the doors open and one of the officers was hit by Eilerman. Officers then used a stun gun on him until he got under control.

He was arrested and taken into custody on a $20,000 bail.
