(KMOV) -- Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Imperial, Missouri.

Investigators say the shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. on Friday at a business on US Highway 61 at Seckman Road East.

Police say the owner of Justice Auto Center was asleep inside the building when he heard someone breaking in to his business.

According to authorities, the business owner feared for his life and shot and killed the intruder.
Police say the suspect was responsible for at least one other break-in in an overnight crime spree.
The spree began just a few miles from Justice Auto Center. Police believe the suspect broke into B and D Auto Sales at 7095 US Highway 61/67 in Barnhart, Missouri.
Police say the suspect may have stolen a white van from that location. Authorities believe he then drove the stolen van to a Mobile Gas Station on Buckley and Lemay Ferry Road in south St. Louis County. According to police, he punched the clerk and then stole cigarettes and gas.
Authorities say the suspect then drove the van to Justice Auto Sales where he was shot and killed. The stolen white van is parked on the side of the business.
