(KMOV) – A suspect is in custody following a crime spree that police say started Thursday with a carjacking at a St. Louis County hospital, followed by the robbery of a local credit union and ended with a high speed chase on Interstate 55.

According to authorities, the 34-year-old male suspect allegedly carjacked a woman driving a 2008 Cadillac CTS who was picking up her husband in the parking lot of St. Anthony’s Medical Center shortly after 1 p.m.

Investigators say a vehicle matching the Cadillac was then used in a robbery at the Arsenal Credit Union on the 4500 block of Lemay Ferry Road.  Police say a weapon was implied during the robbery but not shown.

Police say the suspect then fled the credit union with an undisclosed amount of money.

Authorities say they chased the suspect in the Cadillac on Interstate 55 into south St. Louis City.

Police used spike strips to stop the vehicle at I-55 and Bayless Avenue and officers were able to take the suspect, who was wearing pajamas, into custody.

Lanes of Interstate 55 northbound were closed as authorities worked to clear the scene but have since reopened

Further details pertaining to this incident were not immediately known.
