CHICAGO, IL (KMOV) -- Steven Robbins, 44, was supposed to be serving 60 years in an Indiana prison for the 2002 murder of a man in Indianapolis.

Earlier this week, he was brought to Chicago for a circuit court hearing on two 1992 weapons and drug charges.

But after those charges were dropped, Robbins was mistakenly released and allowed to walk freely out the main entrance of the cook county jail.

A spokesman said there was no indication in jail paperwork that Robbins was to remain in custody. Prison officials in Indiana were expecting his return.
