(KMOV.com) – A popular downtown St. Louis diner is closed for repairs after being struck by an SUV early Sunday morning.

The vehicle slammed into the Eat Rite Diner near the intersection of Chouteau and 7th around 3 a.m.

A witness told News 4 one vehicle ran a red light and then hit another vehicle. One of them then crashed into the front of the diner, which is honored as an attraction on old Route 66.

 Owner Lewis Powers told News 4 the restaurant be closed until damage to the building is repaired.
