(KMOV) – A Boy Scouts volunteer from St. Charles is in custody after police say he tried to meet up with who he thought was a child for sexual purposes on Thursday.

Michael Engler, 50, was charged with attempting to persuade, induce, entice and coerce a minor to engage in sexual activity.

According to court documents, Engler allegedly agreed to meet up with a person he believed was a 14-year-old boy. Upon his arrival, he was arrested by officers involved in an undercover operation.

Police continue to investigate whether there are victims because of Engler’s volunteer activities with the Boy Scouts of America.

Anyone who has information on Engler’s possible involvement in criminal activity is asked to call the St. Louis County Police Department at 314-889-2341 or the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department at 636-949-0809.
