ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Police say a suspicious item found at a home in south St. Louis Friday morning was determined to be a Halloween prop.
Police said a realtor was touring a vacant home in the 4000 block of Oleatha Avenue around 8:30 a.m. when she found the item in the basement.
The woman called police and officers responded to the scene.
Lt. Gray with St. Louis Metro Police said she found a “prop-like” toy that looked “as close to a real bomb as possible.”
The city’s bomb squad was called to remove the suspicious box and investigate the potential bomb.
Police contacted the home’s former tenant and realized the box had possibly been used in a Halloween costume.
Gray said it was not left because of “malicious intent.” He said no charges will be filed.
Police evacuated five other homes on Oleatha Avenue as a precaution.
The scene was cleared by about 10:30 a.m.
