(KMOV) -- The four story pedestrian bridge over Washington Avenue will be coming down.

The deteriorating bridge located at the St. Louis Centre will finally be coming down next Friday. Crews have already started to take some of the bridge apart. The bridge is coming down thanks to the new 7th Street garage project.

The old St. Louis Centre Mall will be converted into a parking garage with shops at street level. The price tag is $31 million, most of which comes from bank loans and tax credits.

The mall opened in 1985, but began to lose tenants in the 90s, before shutting its doors in 2006.

The bridge is expected to take about a month to take down.
