ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – A pregnant woman and a man were killed, and another person was seriously injured in a car accident that happened Tuesday morning in north St. Louis.

The wreck happened in the 3500 block of Goodfellow Blvd near Natural Bridge Ave.

According to police, officers made an attempt to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation, but the suspect vehicle sped off when the officer pulled up behind the car and turned on the police lights. At that point, the officer ended the pursuit, officials say.

One witness says that the vehicle, a Buick Regal, continued speeding southbound on Goodfellow, running a stoplight at Natural Bridge. The witness says the car then hit a bump, went airborne, hit a tree and caught on fire. The 20-year-old driver of that vehicle was taken to an area hospital and was last listed in serious condition.

There were two passengers in that vehicle who were killed as a result of the crash. Darshay Brandon, 19, of the 8300 block of Mayfair and Stuart J. DeJesus, 31, of the 11900 block of El Camara Drive.

Authorities say Brandon was pregnant.

After the accident, officials recovered a gun from inside the vehicle. It had not been previously reported as stolen, so police say it is unclear as to why the driver fled from police.
