(KMOV) – Authorities are searching for a man who tried to lure two girls into his van, causing Scott Air Force Base to be placed on lockdown.

According to SAFB officials, the man approached two 8-year-old girls in base housing sometime Wednesday.

Security forces conducted a sweep of the base, but could not find the suspect. The search caused about a 45-minute delay for employees leaving.

Officials described the suspect as a middle-aged black man with blackish-gray hair. He has a bald spot on the back of his head and is missing one or two teeth. He was last seen driving a black van on Morningside Circle.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the base’s Crime Stop Hot Line at 618-256-1160.
