WINFIELD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Police officers rescued a sleeping man from a burning, smoke-filled home in Lincoln County Friday night.

Police said said an officer first noticed flames in the rear of a house in the 200 block of Sandra Way around 10:45 p.m.

Soon after, Officer Marc McCollister and Officer Brian Richardson rushed into the residence and pulled a sleeping man to safety.

"Visibility inside the home was less than two feet", said Officer Richardson. "The smoke alarms were sounding but the man was difficult to wake. Officer McCollister had to physically pull him from the bed."

Police said the man was not injured, and no one else was home at the time of the fire.

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
