Illinois 157 and St. Paul D
CAHOKIA, Ill. (KMOV) – Two people are in custody after a police officer was hospitalized from inhaling fumes coming from a rolling meth lab during a traffic stop in Cahokia Friday night.
Paul Deaton, 35, was charged with aggravated manufacturing meth while Nicole Deaton, 30, faces charges of possession of methamphetamine and manufacturing meth.
Authorities said Cahokia police officers were conducting a safety check near the intersection of Illinois 157 and St. Paul Drive around 9:25 p.m. when they stopped the Deatons’ vehicle.
An unnamed officer opened their car door and inhaled chemicals coming from inside the vehicle. He backed away due to the strong smell and was later transported to the hospital. He was later released.
Both the Deatons were being held in the St. Clair County Jail on a $500,000 bail each.
