Allegedly drunken St. Louis police officer crashes into patrol truck

(KMOV)--Investigators say that an on-duty officer in one of the department's Chevy Silverados had just completed an assignment when he was struck by a car going the wrong way on De Tonty. Authorities say the driver of the Dodge Caliber that struck the patrol truck was fellow officer Michael Schinner, 27. Schinner was off-duty at the time and allegedly intoxicated. Schinner and his passenger were taken to an area hospital. Schinner's 28-year-old male passenger was seriously injured.

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- One St. Louis police officer has been arrested, another is recovering from injuries following an alleged drunkEN driving accident that left a third man hospitalized.

The incident happened around 2:15 a.m. Saturday at Tower Grove and De Tonty.

Investigators say that an on-duty officer in one of the department's Chevy Silverados had just completed an assignment when he was struck by a car going the wrong way on De Tonty.

Authorities say the driver of the Dodge Caliber that struck the patrol truck was fellow officer Michael Schinner, 27.  Schinner was off-duty at the time and allegedly intoxicated.

Schinner and his passenger were taken to an area hospital. Schinner's 28-year-old male passenger was seriously injured.

The officer whose truck was struck by Schinner suffered injuries to his leg and hip.  He was also treated and released from a local hospital.

After Schinner was released from the hospital he was arrested and charged with DWI and Assault Against a Law Enforcement Officer.

Schinner has been suspended from the department pending an internal investigation.
