O’FALLON, Ill. -- A southwestern Illinois high school is mourning a teacher who authorities say died after falling from a ladder.

The Belleville News-Democrat reports that O’Fallon Township High School industrial technology teacher Matt Seipp died Monday at a St. Louis hospital, a day after the fall. He was 33.

Police Chief John Betten says officers responding to Seipp’s home Sunday found him near a ladder. Betten says Seipp apparently had been working in the garage and sustained head injuries.

Seipp began his teaching career in O’Fallon in 2002 and had served as an assistant baseball coach. He also owned an O’Fallon lawn care business.

His wife, Jodie, is chairwoman of the high school’s English department.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
