(KMOV) – For a second time in just over a month, an employee with a local nursing company is accused of crossing the criminal line.
The first time it was alleged patient abuse and now a worker was accused of theft.
Officials at “Help at Home” had no comment when News 4 learned an employee was accused of stealing thousands from an Alton couple who trusted her for two years.
John and Laura Brunkhorst, both in their 80's, say Tanna Patton had been taking money out of their account several times a day for the past five months, leaving the couple with only $50 to their name.
“Broken hearted, I mean we thought the world of her,” said Brunkhorst.
Patton's case comes just after Antoinette Dale, another “Help at Home” employee who last month was charged with kicking a 90-year-old man.
Prosecutors say they're cracking down on people who abuse, scam, or steal from senior citizens.
'Help at home' corporate officials say they do screen employees before hire and they're conducting an internal investigation in the Patton case.
