(KMOV) –  Breckenridge Hills has decided to scrap a plan to dissolve its police department.

Jack Shrewsbury, mayor of Breckenridge Hills, had proposed shutting down the Breckenridge Hills Police Department for financial reasons.

Shrewsbury said Breckenridge Hills gets almost $2 million each year from St. Louis County taxes, but running the police department costs over half of that amount.

The new proposal would have had a neighboring city patrol Breckenridge Hills instead of the city having their own department, which would save $400,000 a year.

St. Ann Police Chief Aaron Jimenez told News 4 he was interested in using his officers to patrol Breckenridge Hills. Jimenez said the two cities discussed a three-year contract and fulfilling the contract would have required his department to employ eleven Breckenridge Hills officers.
