(KMOV) – Residents’ tax dollars won’t go to pay workers compensation claims in Illinois if the injury happens while the employee is committing a felony.
Governor Pat Quinn signed that into law on Monday.
It was passed because of trooper Matt Mitchell, who was convicted of reckless homicide for the on-duty wreck that killed sisters Jessica and Kelly Uhl.
Mitchell was speeding and on the phone at the time.
He has applied for workers compensation, but a decision on the claim has not yet been made.
