LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (AP) -- Jackson County prosecutors won't file charges against a Lee's Summit mom whose baby died after she accidentally left him in the car all day while she worked.
Lee's Summit police spokesman Sgt. Chris Depue says the case is now closed.
The mother says she thought she had dropped the 13-month-old off at day care May 3 but instead the boy spent the day in the car in unseasonably hot conditions.
The woman, a teacher, was driving home when she discovered the boy in the car and not breathing. She pulled over and called for medical help, then tried to revive her son until emergency responders arrived.
Temperatures reached the low 80s, meaning the car's internal temperature could have easily reached 100.
