BELLEVILLE, Il. – The law isn’t new, but the signs are.  These signs state “no cell phones in school zone” and they were put up in Belleville on Wednesday.

It is an Illinois law that carries a $250 fine for first-time offenders and license suspension on the second offense.

Should drivers be prohibited from using cell phones behind the wheel? Share your thoughts.

Alderman Phil Elmore is considering asking the state of Illinois to make the signs bigger but is happy they are in place.  He states that it is all about the safety of the kids.
