(KMOV) – Nine teens, 6 of which are juveniles, were charged with assault after attacking two people in a South St. Louis neighborhood.

Police received a call on March 5th around 11:20 a.m. for multiple males kicking and punching an elderly man at the corner of Michigan and Nagel. Police responded to the area and saw no victim but, he was later located at a residence in the 7100 block of Michigan.

The victim was an 82-year-old man. He was out on his morning walk when a group of teens, ranging in age from 15 to 19, jumped him. Bystanders saw the attack and called 911. The victim sustained a torn earlobe and his jaw was heavily bruised.

After police located the elderly victim, they learned of another incident that happened the same morning. A 42-year-old man who collects cans in the neighborhood was also beaten just three blocks away. A witness said the man was bleeding around the eye so he gave him a wet cloth. He later refused treatment for his cuts and bruises.

Authorities said 19-year-old Wesley Williams, 17-year-old Rickey Robinson, and 17-year-old Anthony Chatman were charged with 2 counts of 3rd Degree Assault. The other 6 suspect’s names are not being released because they are juveniles.

Police said the suspects are only facing misdemeanor assault charges because the victims were not seriously injured and there is no evidence to show that weapons were involved.

Police said the attacks appeared to be unprovoked and random.
