(KMOV.com) -- New witnesses are coming forward after a St. Louis County cop hit a Laclede Gas truck then fled the scene.
Early Wednesday morning an off-duty officer hit a Laclede Gas truck at Lemay Ferry Road and Little Broadway in Lemay.
The officer works for the North St. Louis County precinct, but he lives near Lemay. Even though the officer was off-duty, he was in his squad car that he is allowed to take home.
Following a News 4 report, witness Todd Mikel contacted us. He says he was driving his son to school Wednesday, when he and the officer nearly collided.
“I saw him come blowing through a stop sign,” Mikel said. “You just brace yourself for impact-and then he just stopped. I had to reverse and go around the officer.”
The officer lives on the same street as Mikel. He says he saw the officer come home and stop in the middle of the street. According to the Mikel, the officer’s wife came out and helped him out of the car to get in the passengers seat so she could drive.
“Then we looked down the street and saw the guy and his wife –she’s trying to get him out of the seat by the arm-was dragging him and everything.”
St. Louis County Police do confirm there was an accident and the officer left the scene of the crash.
Police were called and a report was taken, but it’s very early in the investigation and there are still a lot of questions.
A spokesperson for the department said they are looking into what happened. They are questioning the officer and trying to determine exactly what happened.
Laclede Gas said none of their workers were injured.
