(KMOV) -- Everyday St. Louis County lists updated job openings on this site: paper.li/CharlieADooley/1311105835
The county executives office is using social networking sites to pull information about local openings and re-post by 11 a.m., daily.
Most of the listings come from local recruiters and companies on Twitter.
"It lists the jobs in an easy way," said Bill Ray, special assistant to the county executive's office.
"That way, people can see things in our St. Louis metropolitan location and they don't have to go to 100 different places to find jobs."
The site launched a month ago, with postings found on Twitter. Ray says he hopes to expand by pulling information from the county executive's Facebook friends - as well.
The county doesn't research or confirm the openings, so job seekers still have to use common sense and research any company before submitting personal information, on-line.
Even so, social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn are becoming go-to places for companies to advertise openings. A job seeker can open a Twitter account, search hiring managers at local companies, and follow them to get first dibs on openings. People looking for jobs can also follow @JobsStLouis and Tweet My Jobs, which post openings all day.
Ray expects the government to do more to get out information about job openings, especially on social media sites.
"They have to be open with their idea of what's available because doing this type of thing a few years ago maybe wasn't even thought of."
